Man in Iraqi Army Uniform Kills Two US Soldiers
A man wearing an Iraqi army uniform has shot dead two US soldiers and injured three others in a military base south of the northern city of Mosul.
The US army said the man was also killed in the incident but gave little information about the attack.
But Iraqi military reports said he was a soldier also working as an Imam at a mosque on the base.
April was the bloodiest month in Iraq for both the US military and civilians in quite some time. A few weeks ago I started to fear that President Obama was starting to waffle on his committment to pull combat troops out by the summer of 2010. As the month went on my concern only grew.
Unfortunately, it looks like May is starting out just like April finished. This coupled with the fact that the British have officially ended their campaign in Iraq means the US is all that's left of "The Coalition of the Willing." And as the summer approaches I fully expect the violence to only grow. After all of this time Iraq is still fundamentally a broken country. The occupation has made the majority of the population polarized and they can not find a common ground. The US completely pulling out combat troops is the only thing that will make the Iraqis take legititmate action to either find solutions to their country's woes or not. Our presence has proven unable to achieve this.
