The Political Point of the Day

Today's selection comes from Hermann Goering:
Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.Goering was made the Reichsmarschall by Hitler, a special rank for Goering which made him senior to all other Army and Luftwaffe Field Marshals. He was with Hilter from almost the very beginning. The above words ring out a warning to all mankind. It is not easy to challenge authority, but it must be done.

This is briliant. How do you find stuff like this?

So it seems that every horror imaginable can be brought about with a hefty dose of fear and good advertising.

I had two history classes about Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. The way they manipulated people is amazing - and scary. But what's even scarier is that the GOP is just as good at it…
First time here - love the blog!

Hey Todd, thanks for the compliment. Keep coming back and spread the word!
-The GOP message machine certainly was a well oiled one. Fortunately I think that is no longer the case.
